About us

Who are we?

Arthur Browns (Insurance Brokers) Ltd have been providing independent advice since 1932. Throughout the decades we have continued to maintain the old values of customer service and believe the professional and personal relationship we have with our clients is one of our strongest attributes.

Arthur Brown himself signed the original company paperwork as a Gentleman; a statement which we still cherish today, believing that we are and should act as Gentlemen (and now of course ladies). We do this through treating all of our clients as people and in the manner we would like to be treated; we do not refer to our clients by policy or reference numbers; we refer to you by name because without you we are nothing.

Meet the team

The styles maybe different but the standards remain the same.

Jill Hansbro
Jill HansbroOffice Manager

Jill started with Arthur Browns over 30 years ago initially on a temporary basis to cover leave, and once her children were off to school she began on a permanent basis. Back in the early days, having undertaken secretarial studies at college, she initially took on the role of secretary to one of the directors of Arthur Browns, which required daily sessions of shorthand, transcribing this on an old Olivetti typewriter and lots of filing. As things changed over the years with the introduction of electronic office equipment, this meant that her role of secretary changed within Arthur Browns, and Jill has gained valuable administrative skills in other areas right up the present day. Very much a family person, and spending time with grandchildren, Jill enjoys time at her caravan close to the North Yorkshire Moors, walking, reading and sampling menus at the many country pubs in the area.

“Having been with Arthur Browns since the 1980’s, it has been interesting to be part of the changing times within the insurance industry, and broadening my knowledge to help adapt to this. However, aside from these changes I still also value times I spend on the telephone with clients who have been part of my daily life for many years, and as the company continues to grow in the future I still believe it will keep the traditional Arthur Brown client values.”

Matthew is a Specialist Pension Adviser, he lives and breaths pensions. He has helped Arthur Brown clients navigate the constantly changing world of pensions. Whether it be setting up of new schemes or reviewing existing pensions and helping clients achieve the desired retirement they always wanted.

“Pensions are complicated beasts but I like to get clients to tell me about what they want their retirement to look like, what they want to do in retirement and whether their pensions are on track to achieve these goals.”

Matthew is a family man with 2 young children and enjoys, surfing, crossfit and cycling.

“I’ve been working in the insurance industry for over 37 years, I can remember it well as this was also the first day I started working at Arthur Browns. I believe in the same core values of business that Arthur Brown had when the company was first established in 1931 and strive to continue running it that way for the foreseeable future.”

Graeme Fountain

‘The mortgage industry has had a massive shake up since 2008 and despite all the negative press to the contrary there is still a healthy appetite to lend money, you just need to dig a little to find the right provider.’
